Obituary

Donald Raymond Mann, age 81, of Sioux City passed away on Friday July 27, 2012 at his residence in Sioux City.

A Celebration of Life Service for Don will be held on Wednesday August 1, 2012 at 2:00pm from Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff with his cousin Ron Verbeski officiating. Don was born in Sioux City on February 2, 1931 the son of Raymond and Anna M (Lorenezen) Mann. He attended Sioux City East High School.

He was united in marriage with Carmen Wilcox in Sioux City, Iowa in 1951, Carmen preceded Don in death in 1975 in Sioux City. He later married Marion Bishop in 1978 in Elk Point, South Dakota. Don worked as a meat cutter for many years at Swift Packing, Armour & Company, and Neadums Packing. He then began working for the USDA as a meat inspector. He retired from full time employment in 1993, but continued to work on a part-time basis for USDA.

Don was an excellent and skilled water skier, who was instrumental in building the ski ramp at Crystal Lake in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He was one of the first three persons in the area to ski barefoot. He also enjoyed traveling in his RV to Texas and Louisiana. He also was an avid gun collector and enjoyed trap shooting.

Don also was a former member of the United States Army Reserve and the Iowa Air National Guard 185th Air Division.

He will be missed by his family which includes his wife Marion of Old Forge, New York, his son Kelly of St. Augustine, Florida and his daughter Terri Mann of Sioux City. Don is also survived by his 22 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Carmen, one brother, and his son Steve.
