Obituary

Diane Lyn Gibson, 80 of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa passed away in her home, surrounded by her family Thursday, November 23 after a long battle with COPD. Services will be held 6:00pm Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Peterson, Iowa later in the spring. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm until service time at the funeral home.

Diane was born March 6, 1943, to the loving Duane and Roberta Johnson in Peterson, Iowa. She brought joy to those around her from the very start. Diane enjoyed pastimes such as helping her grandmother bake cookies and playing with her sister on the farm in her early age, and as she grew into her teenage years, her focus shifted to 4-H, where she held office for 9 years. After graduating from Sioux Valley High School in 1960, she continued her education in Mankato, MN. Diane graduated from CSU with degrees in accounting and business administration.

It was in 1976, while living in Longmont, CO. and working at IBM, that she met Bob. They fell in love and were a match made in heaven. She knew she had found her person and soul mate when he asked her if he could adopt her two children, Kenneth and Jessica. Being a mother was one of the most important parts of Diane’s life, a role that gave her much pride and joy. She was an excellent mom and the most amazing grandmother to her 11 grandchildren. Diane was supportive to a fault; kind, hilarious, witty and words cannot express how much she will be missed.

Diane is survived by her sister, Julie Hoffman and her husband, Tom of Loveland CO, her two children, Kenneth Gibson and his wife, Regina of Merrill, IA, and her daughter, Jessica Kritzer and her husband, Patrick of Sergeant Bluff, IA, 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Josh, Cara, Christopher, Lia, Kelsey, Alec, Michael, Maxwell, Sophia, and Lyle, and numerous great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Duane and Roberta, and the love of her life, Ransom (Bob, Ducky, Hoot) Gibson.

Mom, everything good in us is because of you and we will miss and love you every day until we meet again. We always know, because of you, that LIFE IS CHOICES!!
