Obituary

Diane K. Boyd, 84, of South Sioux City, passed away on March 20, 2024 at a local care facility after a brief illness. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, March 27th at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Diane was born on September 23, 1939 in Sioux City, IA to Everett and Margie (McManigal) Davis. She graduated from South Sioux City High School and attended the University of South Dakota. Diane married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Boyd, on June 1, 1963, and they had three children and nine grandchildren. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, “Mimi” treasured her family. A proud, lifelong resident of South Sioux City, Diane was a devoted community volunteer. She served on the SSC Library Board for 25 years and as its president for 20 years; served on the SSC Library Foundation Board; directed two capital fundraising campaigns; served on the Vision and Design Committee for the new SSC Public Library; and scoured used furniture and office shops for the furniture and bookcases to set up the library checkout station. Diane served two terms on the Nebraska Library Commission, serving as its vice chairman and brought the NLA/NSLA conference to SSC for the first time ever. She was a dedicated tour guide and supporter of the historic O’Connor house. She served two terms on the Boys and Girls Home Board and was awarded the Community Pride award for outstanding volunteerism. Diane was appointed an Admiral in the “Great Navy of the State of Nebraska” by Governor Pete Ricketts in recognition of her many volunteer contributions.

Diane had a green thumb and she and Wayne enjoyed working together in their yard, tending to their extensive collection of plants and flowers. They were honored with the SSC Chamber “Yard of the Month” several times for their lovely yard and garden. She also happily volunteered to tend the garden outside the SSC Public Library to keep it looking beautiful and welcoming for several years. Diane was a 50-year member of Chapter DE P.E.O. and Craft and Culture Club. She was a Daughter of the Nile, where she served as attendant to the Queen; and was a member of the SSC Chamberettes.

Left to honor her memory are her children: Scott (Katy) Boyd, Laurie (Joe) Petty, Lynde (Dan) Tyrrell; grandchildren: Evelyn, Wyatt, Eloise and Declan Boyd; Jessica and Alexander Petty; Brandon, Chloe and Kelly Tyrrell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; sister, Darlene Clausen; and brother, Everett Davis, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for designations to be made at a later time.
