Diana "Dee"
Rae Counter
December 30, 1946 – June 16, 2024
Diana “Diane” R. Counter, 77, of Sioux City, IA, passed away peacefully with family present at her bedside on June 16, 2024. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Diana Rae Counter, “Diane”, was born on December 30, 1946, to Elaine Reitz (Wheelock) and Harold L. Reitz.
Diane was united in marriage to the love of her life, Earl Counter Jr., on July 2nd, 1966. Together, the two of them were inseparable - you rarely ever saw one without the other; they shared a lifetime of love, happiness, and created endless joyous memories. Diana attended Central High School in Sioux City, IA. Her greatest accomplishment, as she would say, is being a homemaker and a dedicated mother to her four children. She considered life's greatest blessings to be the gems that are grandchildren and great grandchildren. Diane loved having a home that bubbled with life and conversation amongst her family. She enjoyed treasure seeking at thrift shops around the area, hanging out with her beloved friend Kathleen and cousin Vicky, and most importantly spending time with her family and grandchildren. Diane always ensured those around her were well taken care of and stocked with found treasures from her latest thrift store trip. When it came to cheering on her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she did so wholeheartedly (even if it meant yelling at an umpire for an unfair call). Diane was a selfless woman who did her best to ensure everyone was comfortable and taken care of, regardless if you were family; her witty sense of humor is not one that will be forgotten, nor is the endless kindness and compassion of hers.
Diana is survived by their four children: Jeffery Counter of Omaha, NE, Shannon Cruz (Mario) of Sioux City, IA, Toby Counter of Sioux City, IA, and Tony Counter (Tori) of Sioux City, IA.; her 10 grandchildren: Melanie Schumacher (Mike), Brenda Cruz (Kyle Black), Mario Cruz Jr. (Megan Bye), Laura Archuleta, Kaitlyn Counter(Casey) , Zachery Counter (Hana), Selena Cruz (Nathan), Cameron Counter, Kaylee Counter, and Christopher Counter; her 13 great-grandchildren: Heaven Schumacher, Kaiden Cruz, Jaiden Cruz, Braxton Chesley, Serenity Schumacher, Avery Appel, Mason Chesley, Isaiah Osorio, Leah Cruz, Vincent “Vinnie” Cruz, Liliana “Lily” Cruz, Jenna Cruz, and Ocean Counter.
She is preceded in death by her husband Earl Counter Jr., her brother Dennis Reitz, her mother Teresa Elaine Reitz, her father Harold L. Reitz, her grandparents Loretta and Orlando Wheelock, and many other aunts and uncles.
