DeWayne L. “Big D” Miller, 88 of Sioux City, died Tuesday, December 21, 2010 in Sioux City.
Services will be held Monday, December 27, 2010, 11:00 a.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Russell Senstad officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton, Iowa. Visitation with the family one hour prior to time of service.
DeWayne was born on August 3, 1922 in Denison, Iowa, the son of Otto and Anna (Christiansen) Miller. DeWayne served during WWII in the Pacific Theater with the 63rd Infantry Division, first in the Army and later transferred into the newly formed Air Force. He received the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with the Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal during his military life.
DeWayne was married to Dorothy Steinky on September 13, 1944. She died from cancer in 1968. Later he was married to Phyllis A. Bachert in Sioux City, Iowa. They later divorced.
DeWayne was in construction and owned Miller Building. He built many homes in the Sioux City area. DeWayne enjoyed his work building, and also enjoyed traveling with his family, gardening, cooking and when he was at the Siouxland Center for Active Generations, playing pool and dancing with his special friend, Marlene Stilwell. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
DeWayne is survived by his sons, Dennis Miller and his wife Cindy of Homer, Louisiana and Dean Miller and his wife Bethany of Wayne, Nebraska; daughters Connie Miller of Sioux City, Iowa and Donette and her husband Tom Spring of Simi Valley, California; 7 grandchildren, Todd, Joshua, Clint, Sadie, Tommy, Joah and Kalab; 1 great-granddaughter, Reilly; his sister, Violet Kerling of Austin, Minnesota; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gerald and Leonard Miller.
