Dennis was born August 25, 1950 in Sioux City, Iowa to Burdette and Helen Phillips. He graduated from East High in 1968. Dennis lived in several different states, spending many years in Arizona before returning to Sioux City to be closer to his family and friends.

In his younger years, Dennis was an avid weight lifter, bicyclist, and windsurfer. Later in life, he loved riding along the mountains and prairies and working on his old Harley Davidson chopper ‘64 Panhead and ‘93 Dyna Wide Glide motorcycles. Dennis also enjoyed working on and driving his vintage automobiles, especially his 1968 Chevelle SS muscle car, Dennis also appreciated his new high performance 2015 Chevy Corvette. Dennis was happiest spending time with his family, many friends, and high school buddies. Dennis and his German Sheppard, Bear were very best friends and inseparable.
Dennis worked several jobs over the years spending many of them in the building trades as a laborer and as an operating engineer. He recently retired from FedEx after 23 years.

Survivors include: his wife and soul mate, Steffani; two children, Nick (and East) Phillips of California and Shana (and James) Robinson of Ohio; stepdaughter Becky (and Todd) Fischer of California; sister Karen Dashner of Arizona; and his mother, Helen Phillips of Sioux City. Dennis was also soon to be a grandfather to the baby boy of Nick and East, due April 2016.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Burdette Phillips and his grandparents.

Dennis was the perfect combination of strength, loyalty, determination, and fun-loving goofiness… he was rightfully given the nickname “The Legend” and will forever be loved and missed.
