.Dennis Russell McGinnis, age 69, of Sioux City died Wednesday September 28, 2011 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday October 1, 2011 at 11:00 am at Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church in Bronson with Pastors Lance and Clint Loveall officiating. Mr. McGinnis will be cremated following the funeral service. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8pm with the family present from 6-8 at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Denny was born on October 29, 1941 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Thomas P. and Vera L. (Smith) McGinnis. He attended Sioux City schools until his junior year in high school when he transferred to Bronson Community School, where he graduated with the class of 1960. Following his graduation from high school, Denny became a member of the United States Air Force where he honorably served his country as an aircraft electrician.
Denny was united in marriage with Janice Pottebaum on February 12, 1965. He then began his career as an electrician with the IBEW Local 231 in Sioux City. He began as a apprentice electrician, then continued his career for more than 40 years a journeymanl electrician in the Sioux City area
Denny was loving father and grandfather, who enjoyed being a practical joker. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and was known as a master potato salad creator. He was a proud member of the Democratic Party, as well being a member of the IBEW Local 231 for more than 40 years.
Denny will be missed by his family which includes his three daughters: Sherri Santos and her husband Ray of San Antonio, Texas, Jean McGinnis and her husband Howard Bebout of Schuyler, Nebraska, and Melissa Hovde and her husband Eric of Bronson,Iowa. Denny is also survived by his six grandchildren, Spencer, Megan, Sidra, Brenna, Kaia, and Ella; two sisters Carol Mueller of Wichita, Kansas and Sharon Cunningham of Sioux City, along with many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog “Herky”
Denny was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and six sisters.
The family requests memorials in his name be made to Hospice of Siouxland.
