Delvin M. "Sonny" Dawdy, 70 of Sioux City, died Friday, August 10, 2018 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Services will be held 2 pm Wednesday, August 15 ^th at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be starting at noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Delvin “Sonny” Dawdy, 70 born on January 18, 1948, delivered by his grandfather on a family farm in Oto, IA to James and Leola Dawdy (Houle).   Sonny and Melody spent 40 years together and made it official on August 30, 1996.

Sonny worked for family owned business, Dawdy Truck Line most of his young life.  Sonny was a contractor vendor for Union Pacific Railroad for a number of years. His most recent endeavor was owning his company, Melody’s Sidedump Services, which he proudly drove himself. At a young age Sonny built and raced his own racecar, and according to him, he came in first every race. He was avid bowler in his early age and enjoyed boating.

Sonny enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Sonny was the best father, he enjoyed attending Jamie’s school activities and dance recitals. He was very proud when Jamie graduated from Drake Law School. He was proud that his daughter Kimmie served in the Army, that his son Delvin Jr. owns his own Plumbing business and with his daughter Michealine’s attempt to get her teaching degree before she passed. He was a good role model to his stepchildren Robbie, Mindy and Marci, teaching them hard work gets you anything in life.   Sonny frequently visited Siouxland bars, and when Sonny drank we all drank. His favorite saying “just one more”.   Once you met Sonny you had a friend for life.

Survivors include his wife Melody, his children Jamie Dawdy (Todd Maguire) of Des Moines, Delvin Jr. (Dana), Colorado, Kimberly Gifford (Jerry), Colorado, Robbie Hasler (Shawna), Mindy Thompson (Scott), Oklahoma and Marci Henshaw (Todd), Sioux City. Brothers Patrick, Michael and Mark Dawdy, sisters Donna Stabile, Pamela (Wayne) Prestage and Debbie Dawdy of Sioux City. 21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Michealine and brothers Gene and Matthew.
