Obituary

Delores "Dee" Lewis, 86, of Sioux City, passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at a local hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Delores E. Jeppeson was born on July 13, 1928 on a farm outside of Cornell, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Myrtle (Merry Blount) Jeppeson. She was raised in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Dee attended school in Sioux Rapids and graduated from Sioux Rapids High School in 1946. She was awarded a scholarship to the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. She was united in marriage to Darwin "Dar" J. Lewis on December 10, 1946. They were blessed with three children, Darla, Derise and Dar. While Dar was overseas during World War II, she worked as a clerk at the grocery store in Sioux Rapids. Upon his return home from war they lived in Fairmont, Minnesota and later moved to Woolstock, IA where Darwin worked on the Railroad. During the course of their marriage they lived in Eagle Grove, IA, Fort Dodge, IA, Hawarden, IA, Rapid City, SD, Huron, SD and finally moved to Sioux City in 1964 where they lived together until her death. She stayed at home to raise their three children and then went to work as a clerk to the Trainmaster of the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in 1966. She had been promoted to Trainmaster by the time of her retirement in 1989.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was very active in the church choir and church youth groups over the years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, embroidery, planting flowers, playing the piano and singing. During the retirement years, she and Dar spent much of their time at their cabin on East Lake, Okoboji, IA where they created many wonderful memories with their family. During their summers at Okoboji, they worked part time at Brooks Golf Course and enjoyed their time on the lake boating, fishing and spoiling their grandchildren. Most important to her, were her family, and she always went out of her way to make holiday and birthday gatherings very special for all involved.

Grateful for having shared her life ware her husband, Dar Lewis of Sioux City; her two children Darla (Rick) Wilen of Sioux City, Dar (Becky Ronchetto of Sioux City) Lewis of Estherville, IA; five grandchilren, Britt (Chad) Zink of Sioux Falls, SD, Holly Blum of Schyler, NE, Candace (Mike) Borrall of Sioux City, Travis (Katie) Lewis of Sheldon, IA and Brian Lewis of Castlerock, CO; six great grandchildren, Aubrey Zink, Jacob and Addie Borrall, and Jordan, Braiden and Gage Blum; and one brother Norman Blount of Largo, FL.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents, three half-sisters and her daughter, Derise.
