Debra (Berg) Downs, 63, passed away in a Sioux City hospital on Thursday, October 12, 2023, where she had spent the past few weeks battling pneumonia. She passed away with her children by her side and the prayers of many for a peaceful journey. Services will be held 11:00am Monday, October 23rd, 2023, at the Tabernacle Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Debra was born on January 15, 1960, to Harold and Patsy (Jones) Berg. Debra was born, raised, and lived in Sioux City her whole life. She went to West Junior and West High School as a youth. During these school years, she met David Brown, whom she eventually married, and together had four children: Litisha Brown, Larry Brown, Lionel Brown, and Larissa (Brown) Jackson.

Debra worked in the restaurant industry most of her life where she enjoyed getting to know people, speaking with new people every day, and overall sharing her kind spirit. She enjoyed the simple things; music and Pepsi, reading and Netflix, lilacs and birds chirping, the sun and the fresh smell of the rain, and anything that had to do with her children or grandchildren. She loved seeing a smile on their face, hearing them laugh, or watching videos of them doing their activities. Her favorite thing was to spend time with everyone, give them a big hug, and always let them know, “I love you.”

She is survived by her children and grandchildren.

Debra is preceded in death by her parents, her younger brother Harry, grandparents, and extended family.

Although she will be missed, her family is comforted by her relationship with God and knowing that He said, “I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may also be.”
