Deborah “Debbie” Kathleen Haller-Sturzl, 73, of Sioux City, IA, passed away May 9, 2026 at a local care center. A private family graveside will be held at Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Debbie was born on June 18, 1952 in Sioux City, IA to Francis and Helen (Duryea) Haller. She graduated from Central High School and went on to graduate from WITCC with a degree in nursing. Debbie loved being a nurse, her specialty was working in nursing homes. She began her nursing career at Gordon Memorial and Indian Hills Nursing home before traveling to Tennessee and New Mexico and lastly Lincoln, Nebraska to continue her career. She took wonderful care of elderly people and enjoyed being a caretaker. She was a caring person by nature and became very close to most of her clients. She was united in marriage to Bruce Sturzl on January 15, 1972. He preceded her in death in 1987. Debbie was an avid reader and a collector of elephant figurines. Debbie held a special place in her heart for her many dogs and pets throughout the years, (especially Minnie and Luke).
Those left to honor her memory include her siblings: Patty (Gary) Walters, Carrie (Dave) Knapp; sister-in-law, Mary Haller; brother-in-laws: Rob McClary and Steve Griffith; aunt, Cheryl Archer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Barb Griffith and Cathy McClary; brother, Steve Haller; and niece Stephanie Griffith.
