Obituary

David A. Wessling, 54 of Whiting, died Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

The Funeral Mass will be held 6 pm Monday, January 26, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. A Rosary will be held at 3 pm, followed by Prayer Service, and then visitation with the family until the 6 pm Mass. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.

David Alan Wessling was born on November 30, 1960 in Sioux City, the son of James and Lora (Grass) Wessling. He graduated in 1979 from the Sergeant Bluff High School and in 1981; he graduated with a degree in Carpentry from Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.

After graduating, David worked at Overhead Doors and then at L&L Builders. In 1988, he joined the Carpenters Union Local 948. He worked at Chris Hansen Construction as a Superintendent and later at Klinger Construction. Most recently he worked in Sioux City with Klinger Construction on the new Bomgaars building.


On October 17th 1987, David married his wife of 27 years, Peggy (Parks) Wessling at the Church of the Nativity in Sioux City. Together, they have four children and three grandsons.
During the late 1990’s, David was a Cub Scout Leader for Troop 310, Den #10 in Onawa. David was an avid Minnesota Vikings, Notre Dame Football, and Creighton basketball fan.

David was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Carpenters Union Local 948 and the National Brotherhood of Carpenters.

David is survived by his wife Peggy; one son, David J. Wessling of Whiting; three daughters, Nicole (Michael) Riggs of West Des Moines, Iowa, Elizabeth (Nicholas Harvey) Parks of Whiting and Abby Wessling of Whiting; three grandchildren, Tristan Parks, Caleb Harvey and Sam Riggs; his mother, Lora Wessling of Sergeant Bluff; one brother, Dennis (Teresa) Wessling of Sergeant Bluff; one sister, Debra (Douglas) Swanson of Sioux City; his black lab Sadie, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, one infant child, and his grandparents.

David was a donor with the Iowa Donor Network. Memorials in his name may be made to the Lied Transplant Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. David was beloved and will be greatly missed.
