David "DJ" Mills, 62, of Danbury, IA, passed away following a long battle with cancer on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at a Sioux City Hospital. Memorial service will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Danbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Fridley officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
DJ was born on February 25, 1954 in Afton, Iowa, the son of Harold and Frances (Fillman) Mills. He graduated from East Union High School in Afton, Iowa. DJ moved to Sioux City in 1998 where he met and married Luann Derochie on November 23, 1998 in Elk Point, SD.
DJ has worked as a heating and cooling handyman while living in Missouri and at various packing houses once in Sioux City. He also worked for Lieber Construction for many years, and lastly as a truck driver for Marx Trucking, retiring due to his illness.
DJ enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, doing woodwork, and spending time with family. He especially loved watching his children in their sporting events. He was very proud of his family and will be missed by all.
Survivors include his mother, Fran Mills of MN; wife, Luann Mills of Danbury; children, Lacy (Clark Lucart) Neff of Onawa, IA, Hanna Mills of Danbury, Mike Mills of Sioux City, Chad Mills of Mapleton, IA, Cody Mills of OK, and Ryan Neff of Danbury; brother, Steve Mills of CA; sisters, Teresa (David) Johnson of MN and Alice (Edward) Whinn of NJ; and grandchildren, Shawn, Silas, Sarah, Aaron, Mason, Caitlin, Colton, and Kyler.
DJ was preceded in death by his father, Harold Mills.
