David was born in Sioux City, IA on August 30, 1951 to John and Gladys Law. David graduated from Lawton/Bronson high school in 1970 and joined the Marines shortly after. He had always been so very proud of his service where he became a sharpshooter.
David enjoyed his role as Engineer with Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad. He was employed there for 36years. Growing up on a farm in Bronson contributed to his work ethic. He loved his mother and father deeply and missed them greatly when they passed.
David, never having children of his own, enjoyed taking over the role of step-father to Shane and Farrah and grandfather to their children. He never missed their sporting events and was famous for always supplying Crystal Lite drinks to them and their teammates.
David was known for his adventurous spirit and enjoyed many diverse hobbies, including: golfing, water and snow skiing, hunting, motor cycle racing. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
He was such a good friend to many and a great neighbor, always willing to help anyone. He really enjoyed attending the retired railroader luncheon with Margaret, held once a week at various restaurants. David lived every day with gusto, with positivity, and with joy.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela (1976), his parents and grandparents.
Left to cherish is memory are his wife, Margaret Simmons, stepchildren – Farrah Preston and Shane Nielsen, and grandchildren. Sister JoAnn (Larry) Dowd, niece Kayla (Jeff) Dowd-Kula. Nephews: Jacob Dowd, Aaron (Anna) Dowd, and Mark (Jena) Dowd.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzhiemer’s and Parkinsons associations in David’s name would be appreciated.
