Darrel Harding Hoxsie, age 64, of Sioux City passed away at his residence on Thursday March 6, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday March 11, 2014 at Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church in Sioux City. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be held on Monday from 4-7 pm at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Darrel was born in O’Neill, Nebraska on April 4, 1949, the son of Delbert H. and Lilly M. (Gumb) Hoxsie. The family moved to Woonsocket, South Dakota while Darrel was young, he attended and graduated from Woonsocket Schools.
He was united in marriage with Ruby Zirpel on September 15, 1968 in Woonsocket. To this union four beautiful children were born. Ruby preceded Darrel in death July 29, 2010 in Sioux City.
Darrel served his country as a member of the United States Air-Force from 1969-1973. Following his discharge he returned to Woonsocket working in the lumber business. The family moved to Sioux City in 1981, and Darrel continued his work in the lumber industry at Jordan Millwork and ProBuild, he retired two weeks ago.
Darrel enjoyed woodworking, tinkering, and attending tractor pulls. He was a loving father who cherished the time he could spend with his grandchildren.
His life is lovingly remembered by his family which includes his sons: Daniel and his wife Angela of Sioux City, and Doyle and his fiancée Mendi of Dakota City, Nebraska, his daughters: Rochelle Weideman and her husband Jim of Sioux City and Renae Szczepanik of Sioux City, his eleven grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters: Linda Mees and her husband Rich of Alpena, South Dakota, and Cheryl Smith and her husband Don of Woonsocket, South Dakota.
Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruby, a granddaughter Haley Weideman and a brother Charles.
