Darrell W. Andersen, 73, of Sergeant Bluff, IA, passed away Monday, September 25, 2017 at his residence. Services will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City with Rev. Dan Thornton officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery following services. A visitation will be held from 4-7 with family present from 5-7 and a prayer service at 7:00 pm, Friday, September 29, 2017 at the funeral home.

Darrell was born on August 22, 1944 in Sioux City, the son of Edwin and Evelyn (Swisher) Andersen. Darrell play high school football with his brother, Eddie, and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1962. He met Jo Ann Thornton in 2001 and they were married in 2008.

Darrell worked for Mid American Energy for 30 plus years, retiring in 2006. In his younger years, he loved racing his sprint car. Darrell enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, trapping, and spending time at the lake in Pickstown, SD. Darrell was often known to spend time in his garage, always tinkering with something.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann; children, Malinda (Shayne) Egdorf, Micki Ruhrer, Michael Ruhrer, Michelle (Albert) Collins, Kimberly (Jeremy) Baker, and Tyler (Laura) Andersen; brother, Edwin (Linda) Andersen; twenty-two grandchildren with one on the way; seven great grandchildren; nieces, Leslie (Wade) Parker and their child, Alex, and Kimberly (Keith) Baze and their child, Chesney.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karen Kay; great nephew, Aaron; and niece Michelle. He was also preceded in death by Donna Andersen.

Memorial donations in honor of Darrell may be directed to the family, in which they will donate to a charity of their choosing at a later date.

Pallbearers will be Justen Lair, Joey Egdorf, Braelyn Collins, Carson Gaul, Cy Gaul, and Jacob Ruhrer.
