Darlene J. Smyser, 65, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at a local hospital. Services will be held 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3012 Jackson St, Sioux City, IA. Burial will be Tuesday 2:30 pm at Calvary Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska. A visitation will begin at 8:30 am, on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Darlene was born on October 1, 1950 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Gregory and Cecelia (Bauer) Fischer. She graduated from Omaha South High School in 1968. Darlene married Albert "Gene" Smyser on May 15, 1971 in Omaha, together they moved to Sioux City from 1975 to 1979. Darlene and Albert moved back to Omaha for ten years, before returning to Sioux City to stay in 1989. While living in Sioux City, Darlene was a bank teller at Telco Triad Credit Union.
Darlene enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling, and visiting with friends. She had a very strong Christian faith and was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Gene; daughters, Theresa "Terri" Smyser and Andrea and her husband David Raymond, son, Chad Smyser and his wife, Beth; all of Sioux City; sisters, Kathleen "Kathy" and her husband Dale Thornton of Omaha, Margaret "Margie" and her husband David Dossett of McPherson, KS, and Bernadette "Bernie" Fischer of Omaha; and grandchildren, Daniel, Nicole, and Benjamin Raymond.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Thomas Fischer.
