Daniel “Dan” Thomas Capers, 35, of North Sioux City, SD, passed away surrounded by his family and loved ones on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at a local hospital. A private family service will be held and a celebration of his life will occur at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Dan was born on October 25, 1990 in Guadalajara, Mexico. He was adopted by Charles “Chuck” Capers and grew up in Sioux City, IA. Dan graduated from West High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He married Kayla Vital on June 23, 2011. Dan enjoyed anime and Pokémon. He loved spending time with his children and playing video games with them. He worked as a desk clerk, racetrack manager, and, most importantly, a stay-at-home dad.
In one final act of selflessness, Dan became an organ donor. Friends and family filled Unity Point to say goodbye and be with Dan during his final journey to the operating room to make the organ donation. The Honor Walk was a wonderful tribute to Dan and he was able to give others the gift of Life. He was a true hero.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Kayla Capers; children: Aiden and Isabella; mom, Stacy Davis; siblings: John (Vanessa) Ana Joana, Marikza, and Carlos; aunts: Nikki and Robin; and uncle, Jeremy.
He is preceded in death by his Dad, Charles “Chuck” Capers and his grandparents.
