Colleen V. Kvidera, 72 of Whiting, died at a care facility in Whiting, affectionately known by family and friends as “Smurf” passed away Friday October 6 after a very long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Funeral Services will be held 11:30 am Wednesday, October 11th at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 5-8 pm, with the family present 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

Colleen was born on June 8, 1945 to Joseph and Vivian (Ashmore) Keegan. She grew up in the Riverside area of Sioux City and attended Sacred Heart elementary and Heelan High School. Colleen married James Kvidera on April 26, 1969. The couple resided in Sioux City and later South Sioux City where they raised their three sons. Colleen worked in the kitchen at E.N. Sweat Elementary school in South Sioux City after her children were old enough for school until she was unable to work due to M.S. Colleen was a fun loving person that could often be found enjoying her son’s or grandchildren’s sporting events. She also enjoyed crafting, cross-stitch and spending time with family and friends.

Colleen is survived by her husband of 48 years Jim, her sons Joe (Karla) Kvidera of Ponca, NE, Sean (Jennifer) Kvidera of Sergeant Bluff, IA, and Jay (Stephanie) Kvidera of Polk City, IA., four grandchildren Zachery, Lindsey, Samuel and Benjamin. She is also survived by her sisters Kathleen Britton of Frederic WI, Ann McNamara of North Sioux City, SD, and brother Tim of Sioux City, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Patrick and sister Judy.
