Clifford L. “Cliff” James, 72, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at his residence after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sioux City, with Chaplain Andrew Mahaney officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. A luncheon will follow the services at the funeral home.
Cliff was born Jan. 15, 1946, in Sioux City, to Isaac and Evelyn (Rouillard) James. He attended Sioux City Schools. He was a member of the Army National Guard serving as a radio communications specialist from March 1963 to March 1967.
He married Jean Knutson on Nov. 19, 1965. To this union two children were born, Bryan and LeAnn. In his younger years, Cliff was employed as a truck driver for various companies in the area. He then worked as a welder-fabricator for Fimco, Sabre Communications and Royal Iron Company.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing in earlier years. He loved being outdoors, horseback riding and participating in sports. He also enjoyed playing baseball in his youth and in the early 80s, coached Westside Little League baseball.
After retirement, he enjoyed doing yardwork, watching National Geographic and documentaries on TV as well as cooking. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and looked forward to taking family trips to Branson, Mo., as well as visiting his son, Bryan in Florida.
He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Vikings fan. He was a devoted pet lover and will be missed by his loyal Boston Terrier.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jean; son, Bryan and wife, Stephanie of No. Fort Myers, Fla.; daughter, LeAnn and husband, Matthew of Sioux City; nine grandchildren, Brittnie, Jordan, Nathan, Tyler, Landon, Dylan, Kaysi, Matthew II and Evelyn; three sisters, Eleanor (Darrell) Crosser, Joan (Harvey) Rafel and Doris Shields; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harry, Larry and Ralph; two sisters, Margaret Breland and Donna Muecke; other relatives and friends.
