Clarence C. "Cal" Sweat, 84 of Sioux City, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015, peacefully at his home following a period of declining health, with his loving wife and step-daughter at his side.
Graveside services will be held 2 pm Monday, June 22, 2015 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Tim Squire officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Clarence Calvin Sweat was born on April 25, 1931 in Byar, Oklahoma, the son of Henry Sweat and Thelma Eslick. He was raised and educated in Oklahoma. As a young man, Cal worked as a lumberjack up and down the northern West Coast. He was also an amateur boxer during his youth. Cal served in the Army during the Korean War.
On January 2, 1986, he was united in marriage to Colleen Gilbert.
Cal worked at the WCCAA for 10 years, then for 30 years at the Radio Cab Company as a driver and dispatcher. He enjoyed his time at Radio Cab. Cal loved watching boxing and westerns. In retirement, he enjoyed gardening and being in the great outdoors. Cal's greatest love was being in the company of his family, especially his two step great-granddaughters.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 29 years, Colleen; two sons, Calvin Sweat and his girlfriend Kyle, Bill (Diana) Sweat; one daughter, Pam (Dickie) Landrum; step sons, Mitchell (Cindi) Gilbert and Alan Gilbert; and his step-daughter, Linda Gilbert; many grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and many great grandchildren and step-grandchildren; one brother; and three sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Scott Sweat.
