Clarence was born on April 16, 1948, to Rita and James Holcomb. He attended St. Joseph School and Bishop Heelan Catholic High School. He married Patti Biggerstaff, and together they had three children: Buffie, Tracey, and Jim. They later divorced. In 2006, he met Phyllis Carter, and they remained longtime companions until her passing.
At just 18 years old, Clarence began his trucking career with Dawdy Trucking. His first trip took him from Sioux City to New York, marking the beginning of a remarkable career. Over the years, he accumulated 5.5 million accident-free miles before straight line winds ended his driving career in May of 2024.
Beyond trucking, Clarence had a passion for stock car racing at Raceway Park, where he proudly drove car number 55. A true car enthusiast, he spent countless hours restoring and repairing vehicles, always eager to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His pride and joy was his 1955 Chevy pickup, Annie, which he showcased at numerous car shows, earning many awards.
Clarence cherished time with his family, attending reunions and visiting loved ones whenever he could. He adored all of his grandchildren and took great joy in being part of their lives.
