Obituary

Christian J. "Chris" Dyhrkopp, 86 of Sioux City, died Thursday, August 10, 2017. Funeral service will be held 11:00am Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be in Lakeveiw Gardens Cemetery, Okoboji, Iowa with Military Honors by the United States Navy. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Christian James Dyhrkopp was born June 2, 1931 in Spencer, Iowa, the eldest son of Ralph Andrew and Georgia L. (Mushrush) Dyhrkopp. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1949. Chris entered active duty in the US Navy in January of 1951 and served as a Pipe Fitter, Third Class, on the aircraft carrier USS Bennington (CV-20) before honorably discharged in November of 1954.

After returning home from the service he met and married Barbara Jule Ball on October 27, 1957 in Webb, IA. To this union four children were born, Stephanie, Brenda, Sonja and Christian "Chad". He worked for Pixler Electric and as a self employed electrician before joining the IBEW. Chris was a 55 year member of the IBEW Local 231, working as a electrician traveling the Midwest.

Chris enjoyed fishing, hunting, remodeling his home, and watching movies. He especially enjoyed having all of his children and grandchildren on Christmas Eve and making chili, potato soup, and oyster stew.

Chris was the "Foreman" at all times. He was known as being very particular... as everything had its place.

He is survived by his four children; Stephanie Carter and her fiancé Randy Chapman of Sioux City, Brenda Olson and her husband Mark of Spirit Lake, Sonja Grimsley and her husband Craig of Bronson, and Christian "Chad" James Dyhrkopp and his wife Jody of Columbus, NE., ten grandchildren; Shelby Carter (Craig Norris), Kailey Carter (Jimmy Kirby), Sierra Chapman, David Chapman, Julia Olson, Alecia Olson and her fiancé Isaac Heard, Cassidy Dyhrkopp, Christian James Dyhrkopp, Kellen Grimsley and Louden Grimsley, and three great grandchildren; Peyton Norris, Chase Carter and Brooklyn Carter Kirby, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Chris is proceeded in death by his parents, siblings, and his grandson Zachary E. Carter.
