Charlotte Sweisberger Powell, age 84, of Hornick died Monday morning at her residence.
Memorial services will be held Friday May 27, 2011 at 11:00 am at Hornick United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held Friday at 9:30 am at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4-7pm at her son's residence.Charlotte Powell was born on July 19, 1926 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Charles Sweisberger and Henrietta Young. She moved to South Sioux City, Nebraska, with her parents and siblings, and attended school in South Sioux City. She worked at Woolworth’s before and after her marriage. She married Lloyd Elmer Powell on May 5, 1947 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. She was a stay at home mother for their only child, David Lee. Charlotte lived in Sioux City with her husband and son, until she and Lloyd moved to rural Hornick in 1970. After living in Moville Senior Housing, she moved in with her son in April of 2011.
Charlotte enjoyed flowers, gardening, her son, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great -great grandchild .
Charlotte is survived by her son David, three grandchildren and their families; granddaughter Angela(Mike)Mooney of rural Hornick, great grandchildren Nick and Amber Bieler of Sioux City, ET3 Catlin and Samantha Bieler of US Navy, Bremerton, Washington, Kelsey Kelsheimer(Tony Thooft) and their child Kamryn Thooft of Sioux City and Sarah and Peter Mooney of rural Hornick.
Grandson, Jeff(Mishelle) Powell of Moville, great grandchildren Shelby and Colby Powell, of Sioux City and step great grandchildren Bailey and Seth Even of Moville.
Granddaughter, Nicole(Troy)Kelsheimer of Moville, great grandchildren, Brittany of Sioux City, Tyler of Moville, and step-great granddaughter Anissa Ladwig of Ida Grove,
Brothers-in-law, John Prescott of Sioux City, Lester Powell of North Sioux City, SD, and Richard Powell of Blue Springs, Missouri, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lloyd, on September 11, 2008, her siblings, Henrietta Gill, Charles “Fuzz” , George, Margaret Boyle, Dorothy Boyle DeRoin, Helen Boyle, Bill, and Joyce Prescott.
