Obituary

Charles L. “Chuck” Smith, 68 of Sioux City, died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be held 2 pm Friday at Riverside Lutheran Church with Rev. Gary Harris officiating. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Chuck was born on June 23, 1944 in Sioux City, the son of Melvin and Virgie (Cunningham) Smith. He attended school in Sioux City. Chuck was a Chef in the area, and began working at the Flamingo Inn of South Sioux City, later worked for 25 years at the Sioux Harbor Truck Stop and 23 years at Theo’s Steakhouse. Most recently, he worked part-time at the Green Gables and Sweet Fanny’s, now known as SoHo.

Chuck enjoyed playing cards, dice and crochet. During the spring and summer, he enjoyed working in the flower garden.

Chuck enjoyed catering many of the Saturday in the Park and Biker’s Night in Sioux City.

On January 23, 2010 Chuck was united in marriage to Tim Kunkel in Sioux City.

Chuck is survived by his spouse Tim; his daughter, Jackie Chism of Avoca, Iowa; his sons, Blake (Cathy) Smith of Oceanside, California, Chad (Angie) Smith of Rochester, Minnesota and Kelly (Keely) Smith of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; one sister, Judy (Earl) Bowman of South Sioux City; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Vernon, Russell, Donald and Melvin; and one sister, Alma Dye.
