Charles J. Limoges, Jr., 96, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at his residence. A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday, August 11, 2017 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. A visitation will be held from 5-7 with family present from 6-7pm on Friday, at the funeral home.
Charles was born on January 22, 1921 in Vermillion, SD, the son of Charles and Aldia (Danderand) Limoges. He attended St. Peter's Catholic School in Jefferson, SD. Charles joined the United States Navy in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1948. He later joined the Navy Reserves from 1957 to 1979.
Charles married Darlene Schafer on February 4, 1948 in Sioux City. He worked at Swift Packing Company from 1948, until retiring in 1983. Charles went back to work in 1987, working for USDA, and retiring again in 2009.
Family was the most important aspect of his life, he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Charles enjoyed gardening, feeding the backyard wildlife, mostly the squirrels, and taking some time to relax at the neighborhood bar. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame, Fighting Irish football. Charles had many pets throughout his life that he cared for, most recently, his yorkie, Sammy.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene; children, Charles (Janelle) Limoges III of Ainsworth, IA, Cheryl Limoges of Apple Valley, MN, Carole (David) Sharp and Andre (Judy) Limoges, both of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren, with one on the way; and his yorkie, Sammy.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and all of his siblings.
