Obituary

Charles E. “Charlie” Hiserote, 73 of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be held 10:00am Friday, May 19, 2023 at the Loving Faith Fellowship Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm with a prayer service at 7pm Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the church.

Charlie was born December 30, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Millard and Beatrice (DeVault) Hiserote. He enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17, on December 22, 1967. Charlie served in the Vietnam War receiving his honorable discharge on December 21, 1973. After his discharge from the Army, he attended WITCC and received his GED. He married Karen Evans on December 20, 1976, and in this union, they had five children.

He worked as a painter and drywaller. He attended the Iowa State Law Enforcement Academy receiving his certificate. He went on to be a cop in Correctionville, Iowa. He had aspirations of becoming a Sioux City Police Officer, but a tragic car accident prevented him from pursuing his career in law enforcement. After two years of recuperating, he returned to painting and owned and operated his own painting company H&Y Painting. Charlie then went to WITCC to receive his CDL and drove semi for two years. He worked at Schaeff Manufacturing in the painting department. He retired in 2004 due to health issues some cause by Agent Orange.

Charlie is survived by his wife Karen, three sons, Chris (Kelly) Hiserote, Kelly Hiserote, Charles “Mike” Hiserote, two daughters, Melody (Gilead) Ropte, April (Nick) Knox, brother, Tom (Judy) Rich, 14 grandchildren; Ian, Aria, Abigial, Gracie, Lucas, Rextyn, Ava, Elijah, Uriah, Olivia, Levi, Akira, and Peyton, step grandson, Hunter Knox, and one great grandchild, Lilah.

He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers; David, Walter, Tim, Paul, and five sisters; May, Luella, Maxine, Mildred, Lily.
