Charles L. Birdsell, 62, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at his residence. Arrangements are pending with Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Charles was born on August 8, 1954 in Iowa City, IA, the son of Ray and Dorothy (Brown) McCutcheon. He graduated high school from Mt. Pleasant, IA.

Charles married Marsha Orr and to this union, two sons were born, Jason and Sean. They later divorced. Charles married Catherine Leopold on July 16, 2016 after being together for over 20 years. Together, they had one daughter, Crystal.

While living in Mt. Pleasant, Charles owned and operated his own construction business. While living in Sioux City, he worked as a blackjack dealer at Winnevegas for at least 18 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, grilling out, and playing pool, he was on three different pool leagues. Charles was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Bears.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Birdsell and their daughter, Crystal; sons, Jason Birdsell and his wife, Kristine and their children, Ashley and Jalen of New London, Iowa and Sean Birdsell and his wife Clare and their children, Layton and Brooks; brothers, Lewis Brown, Bill (Michelle) Birdsell, Michael (Christine) Birdsell, and Patrick Birdsell; sister, Yvonne Tjosvold; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Judy Spath.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Renee, Debbie, and Deana.
