IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cathy S.
Johnson
September 16, 1957 – September 27, 2024
Cathy Johnson, 67 of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Friday, September 27, 2024, at a local care facility. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, October 6th in Stone Park at the Lodge.
Cathy Sue Johnson (Hexamer) was born September 16th, 1957, in Sioux Fall, South Dakota to Shirley (Stephens) and Bruce Hexamer. In 1966 the family moved to the Morningside area of Sioux City where Cathy graduated from East High School in 1975.
Her first career began in the office of Marx Bros. Trucking where she was employed while devoting her time raising her children often working more than one job while also volunteering for the PTO of her children’s school, running them to special events, and planning memorable Halloween and birthday parties. Simultaneously, Cathy worked towards her bachelor’s degree which she obtained from Morningside College and continued her education at Bellevue University earning a master’s degree. Once she finished with her degrees, she became very passionate about teaching classes for children of divorced parents; Cathy taught "Children First" classes up until the very end. As a dog lover, she was proud to be a Canine Good Citizen instructor for numerous years.
Cathy’s greatest joy was raising two beautiful and successful children: Ali and Alex. Cheering them on as they achieved their academic and life goals brought Cathy great pride. She was an avid collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia, a fantastic cook, an even better baker, and was always willing to lend a listening ear. Cathy passed away unexpectedly on September 27th in her home.
Cathy was witty, silly, intelligent, loyal, and she loved fiercely and unconditionally. There are unending adjectives to describe her; she was the whole package.
Cathy is survived by her daughter Ali of Seattle, Washington, son Alex of Sioux City, IA, her four-legged son Larry, as well as her brother, Terry and sister, Shyla.
She is preceded in death by her father, mother and brother, Ron, as well as beloved labrador retrievers who undoubtedly have greeted her with tails wagging.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Siouxland Humane Society.
