Catherine "Cathy" Sutherland

Catherine “Cathy” Sutherland, 82, of St. Joseph, MO, formerly of Sioux City, IA, passed away July 3, 2026 in Omaha, NE. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Visitation will be 1 hour prior at Church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Cathy was born on October 15, 1943 in Sioux City, IA to Andrew and Evelyn (Stavropoulos) Kounas. She graduated from Central High School and then earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Marketing from Western High School. She was united in marriage to John E. Sutherland; he preceded her in death in 2019. Cathy was a member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church and enjoyed puzzles, ceramics, knitting, crocheting, cooking (especially breads and fried chicken), baking, playing poker, and her dogs: Hannah and Allie.

Those left to honor her memory include her children: John W. (Cathy) Sutherland and Dawn V. (Tom) Villone; grandchildren: Nicholas Villone, Gage Sutherland, and Zoe Sutherland

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Eric Sutherland; and several brothers and sisters.
