Carolyn Ann Stuhr

Carolyn Ann (Frey) Stuhr, 82, of Sioux City, IA passed away September 15, 2026. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 23 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with a visitation from 9-11:00 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Carolyn was born September 26, 1943, and grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and woman of faith, Carolyn built her life around the things she treasured most: her family, her church and the children she was called to teach.

After graduating from high school in Omaha, Carolyn attended Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska, where she earned her teaching degree. It was at Concordia that she met Lonnie Stuhr, who would become her husband and partner in a life of faith and service. Carolyn and Lonnie were married on June 11, 1965. Together, they answered a call to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School in Sioux City, Iowa, beginning a lifelong connection to the church community that became such an important part of their lives.

Carolyn devoted the next 40 years to education, teaching at St. Paul’s Lutheran School and Irving Elementary School. Reading was one of her great passions, and she took particular joy in sharing that love with young children. Over the course of a long and rewarding career, she helped countless students discover the joy and confidence that come from learning to read. Her influence as a teacher extended far beyond the classroom and lives on in the many children whose lives she touched.

Above all, Carolyn was devoted to her Christian faith and her family. Her faith was not simply something she professed, but something she lived through service, teaching, love and care for others. She treasured her roles as a wife and mother and later found great joy in being a grandmother and great-grandmother.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lonnie Stuhr; their three daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Steve Brown, Catherine and Michael Sabers, and Michelle and Ken Green; her brother, David Frey; eight grandchildren, Amanda (River) Kramer, Brady Brown, Nate Brown, Morgan Sabers, Emily Sabers, Benjamin Green, Ava Green and Kate Green; and her great-granddaughter, Sophia Kramer.

Carolyn’s legacy can be found in the family she loved so deeply, the faith that guided her life, and the generations of children she taught and encouraged. Her life was one of service and steadfast love, and she will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
