Carol Susan Schatz, 79, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa was surrounded by family when she passed away peacefully Friday, January 3rd, after an 8-year battle with Alzehimer's Disease.

Carol was born April 11th, 1945, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Edmund and Helen Schmidt.  She attended St. Michael's Catholic School and later Heelan High.

In 1962, Carol married William (Bill) Holder and gave birth to their first child, Jerry in 1963.  Daughter, Julie followed in 1965 and with son, Michael (Mike) arriving in 1973.  According to Mike, Carol finally had the perfect child, which is why he was the last child born to this union. (Carol never confirmed nor denied)

In 1983 Carol married Herbert Schatz and was blessed to welcome four stepchildren, Brenda, Mark, Todd and Joe into her life.  Throughout their marriage, Carol and Herb enjoyed going out dancing, camping, traveling and attending car races and fairs any time they could.

Carol was a lifelong Elvis fan and knew every song by heart.  She loved country music and attending concerts, playing cards and board games. During summers Carol and Herb spent their time camping and making memories with friends and family. When the weather turned cold, you could find her watching her Vikings play football or watching Nascar to cheer on her favorite driver, Jimmie Johnson. Carol loved to bowl and earned many trophies and awards over the years. One of her favorite activities was attending her grandkids' events. Whether it was football, soccer, track, wrestling, basketball, band, dance or cheer, Carol was there.  Her grandkids were the light of her life, and she never missed a chance to cheer them on. Carol loved dogs and had many fur babies throughout her life.

Over the years, Carol enjoyed working at Oehler Brothers, Computer Support and Kern Sign, where she made many lifelong friendships.  In fact, Carol made friends everywhere she went. Her very best friends were Donna Anderson, Renee Schatz and Doris Bauer and she loved to tell stories of the fun times they had together.

Carol will always be remembered for her sense of humor, her kindness, her love for her family, and the way she always made people feel welcome in her home.  Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.

Left to remember her are husband, Herb Schatz, daughter Julie and her children Jena and Taylor, son Mike, his wife Andrea and their children Brendan, Justin and Alexandra, stepdaughter Brenda and her son Tyler, stepson Mark, his wife Alicia and their children Lilly, John and Emily, stepson Todd and his children Alisha, Kierstyn and Peyton, stepson Joe and his daughter Brooklyn, granddaughter Talitha Sterling, as well as 4 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, sister JoAnn and granddaughter Jessica.
