Carla E. Hanner, 62 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022, surrounded by the love of her family. Celebration of Life will be held 5:00pm Saturday, November 26, 2022, at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave.

Carla Ellen Bauer was born September 29, 1960, in Iowa City, Iowa to Cassidy “Casper” Porter and Wilma White. Carla was later adopted by Wilma’s husband Clyde Bauer. She grew up in Pomona Beach California, where she learned to surf, loving every minute of it.

She met Steven Seltenreich when Carla was in High School and conceived her first daughter Jaime Ann. In 1979 Carla met Steven Hanner at the Wharf Bar in Fontana, California, where Steven fell in love with Carla and her little red headed daughter. Carla and Steven were married on January 22, 1981, in Chino, California. They moved back to Sioux City, Iowa later in 1981 to attend the funeral of Grandpa Wayne Hanner. Carla and Steve decided to stay and reside in Sioux City, Iowa. They added two more daughters, KayeLyn and Stephenie Rea Marie to their growing family, and later on, adding Steven’s daughters, Katrina and Sandi Hanner to the growing family, raising all their daughters together.

Carla was a very hard-working woman at times working two jobs to support her family. She was a dedicated employee with various companies such as Godfather’s Pizza, South Hills Cinema, she also worked at Mid -Steps for more than 25 years caring for individuals with disabilities. Carla loved the clients she cared for and would go the extra mile for all of them. She also worked fulltime at the Sioux City School System as the lunch lady at Leeds Elementary, which she enjoyed doing and was still currently employed for.

Carla and Steve enjoyed being a member of the ABATE of Iowa District 20 to help promote motorcycle awareness; she was the Treasurer for five plus years. ABATE was very important to Carla as her and Steve were in a motorcycle accident in 1992, but they still loved to ride and raising awareness.

She enjoyed playing darts at the Cattleman’s and the Paxton Bar with her daughters, niece, and friends, when she could hit the dart board and surprising everyone by winning the end of the year tournament with first place. She also enjoyed watching football, especially the Green Bay Packers, since it was her favorite team. Carla loved to spend time with her family.  The light of Carla’s life was her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She always did her best to see the positive in life. Carla was always the life of the party, and anyone who knew her, knew to bring her Miller Lite or BYOB!!

Carla is survived by her husband of 41 years, Steve Hanner, four daughters: Jaime Ann, Kaye (Fiancé Jimmy Ackerman), Stephenie and Sandi (Mike) Headid; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 sisters Karen, Anna (Jerry) and Tammy (Rich); 1 brother Charles; many extended family and numerous friends who feel like family.
