C. “Bruce” Hunt, 88 of Sergeant Bluff, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.
Service will be held 10:30 am Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff, with Pastor Tim Rieckhoff-Faris officiating. Visitation will be held 6-8pm Thursday, February 18, 2016 with Masonic Service at 6:30 pm and a prayer service at 7pm. Burial will be at a later date. Per his wishes his body was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff, 400 4th Street.
Bruce was born in Sioux City on November 22, 1927 the son of E. Porter and Eva M. (Yockey) Hunt. He attended school in Sioux City, Ia graduating from Central High School. For two years Charles attended N.B.T. (National Business Training) School, also went to Morningside College for a short term. He married June A. Carl in June of 1951. He married Mary L. Zierott from 1963 until 1980. Bruce and Mary E. Dunagan married in July of 1988 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
He worked for General Tobacco Co. as a City Salesman from 1948 – 1963. He went on to work for Hoak Motors and Souders-Tagatz Motors until 1972. From 1972 until his retirement in 1990 worked as a supervisor for Payless Cashway Lumber in Denver, Colorado Springs, Iowa City, and in Sioux City.
Bruce was a member of the Sergeant Bluff Community Methodist Church, American Legion Post # 662 of Sergeant Bluff, member of Old Times Golf Club of Sergeant Bluff, was a Charter member of Morning Cosmopolitan Club of Sioux City, Landmark Lodge # 103 of Sioux City, Scottish Rite Bodies of Sioux City and was a Abu Bekr Shriner. He was President of the Shrine Sahibs Unit in 1992 for many years, and was a member of Masonic High Twelve Noon Service Club.
Mr. Hunt was a WWII veteran serving his country in the United States Army from 1945 thru 1947 in the South Pacific and Philippines Islands. He was privileged to be on the Honor Flight #2 out of Siouxland for a trip to WWII Memorial in Washington D.C.
Charles is survived by his wife Mary, one son Chuck (Char Loula) Hunt of Chicago, Minn., one daughter Lynda (Mike) Driscoll of Peoria, AZ., step children Randy Dunagan of Sergeant Bluff, Mike Dunagan of California, Brenda Jensen of Mesa, AZ., Lori Whittecar of LeMars, IA., Michael Zierott, David Zierott both of Minneapolis, MN., three sisters; Betty Winter, Shirley Milligan, Barb Davis, one brother Robert Hunt, Nieces, Nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Nate, Bill Hunt, one sister Phyllis Mattison and son-in-law Dennis Whittecar.
