Bradley Randall Strong, age 76, of South Sioux City, Nebraska died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday evening July 31, 2012 at a local care facility from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday at The Church of the Nativity in Sioux City
with interment following in Calvary Cemetery at Emerson, Nebraska. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8pm at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff with a Vigil service held at 7:00pm. Online condolences for the family may be made at www.waterburyfuneralserviceinc.com
Bradley was born in Winnebago, Nebraska on July 24, 1936, the son of Frank and Rachel (Simonson) Strong. He attended school in Dakota City graduating with the class of 1954. He then attended the University of South Dakota where he was a member of the 1957 NCAA National Champion basketball team He then attended Morningside College in Sioux City where he received his business degree in 1959.
Brad was united in marriage with Donna Rose Lamp on September 5, 1959 at Sacred Heart Church in Emerson, Nebraska and to this union four children were born. Brad has been a resident of the Dakota City and South Sioux City area for more than 76 years.
For most of Brad’s career, he worked as a sales accountant for the Pillsbury Company where he was a devoted employee for more than 30 years. He was a gifted salesman who enjoyed the clients he served and the many people he met throughout his career.
Brad loved sports and was a long time supporter of South Sioux City athletics He served on the South Sioux City Board of Education for several years and was an active member of the South Sioux City community.
He was also an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Brad grew up with an appreciation of the Missouri River and the beauty of the land surrounding it.As a result, he supported the conservation efforts of Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.
He enjoyed attending his children’s and grand -children’s activities as much as he enjoyed sitting in the duck blind or out on the Missouri River with his hunting and fishing buddies. He had an enormous love for his family and friends and was happiest playing with his grandchildren or surrounded by his large extended family
Above all else, he had a huge heart and was a generous spirit, who always made time for those who needed him.
He will be missed by his family which includes his wife Donna of South Sioux City, his son Greg Strong of Sloan, Iowa, his three daughters:Lori Obermeyer and husband John of Sergeant Bluff, Cynthia Urschel of Overland Park, Kansas and Angela Stroschein and her husband Ryan of Edgewater, Maryland. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: T.J. Obermeyer, Kelly and Lauren Urschel, and William Stroschein, along with three brothers: Melvin and Willis Strong both of Omaha, Nebraska, and Charles Strong of Dakota City, Nebraska and sister Dorothy Chamberlain of Sioux City along with many cousins, nieces and nephews, and his beloved Sheltie, Prince.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Earl, Oscar, Ted, Vernon, and sister Mary Jane.
Memorials in his name may be made to Hospice of Siouxland, Church of the Nativity or Alzheimer’s Association for research.
