Bonnie was born in Sioux City, Iowa, April 4, 1919 to Alwin Price McKercher and Elsie Minnie Pfaff McKercher.
Bonnie attended Buena Vista University for one year, and Wayne State Teacher’s College for two years. She spent summers as a playground director. She married John Robert Adams, September 21, 1940. He shared her love of reading and poetry, hiking and the outdoors, tennis, archery, spending time with the family at their cabin at Spirit Lake, and a mutual desire for a large family. She was a member of the former Morningside Presbyterian Church (now Faith United Presbyterian) since childhood. She belonged to Altheans, and later belonged to their Marterians group. Bonnie loved art and nature, a highlight being a canoe trip to the boundary waters of Minnesota. Bonnie was a former member of the Sioux City Figure Skating Club, loved ice dancing and performed in a number of their productions. She was a member of the Sioux City Woman’s Club, and Girls of ’68. An avid skilled bridge player and golfer, she played often at the Floyd Valley Golf Course. Other club involvement included Ikettes and the Brush ‘N Palette Department of the Sioux City Woman’s Club.
Bonnie inspired the spirit of her family and was its great gathering force. The family remembers her often saying, “It’s a great life if you don’t weaken,” a quote by the Scottish novelist and historian John Buchan. She was also heard telling grandchildren to “just figure it out”. With their children involved in a myriad of activities John and Bonnie’s Morningside home was the gathering place for the entire neighborhood.
She is survived by her six children Mark Adams and wife Vivian, Sioux City; Mary Luft and partner John Kramel, Miami, FL and Claverack, NY; Jean Adams, Claverack, NY; Sitara (born Cynthia) Adams, Saugerties, NY; Yura (born Sandra) Adams, Great Barrington, MA; and Craig Adams, Sioux City. Grandchildren include Jeffrey Adams, Brent Adams, Shawn Adams, Kirsten Luft, Adrian Luft, Mabel McLean, Hattie McLean, Aurora Adams, Jasmine Martin, Olivia Adams, Ian Adams, Velvet Adams, and Mack Adams; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Thomas McKercher.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976, her parents; one brother; and four sisters.
The family wishes to thank Accura Healthcare, and Care Initiatives Hospice for the wonderful care she received during her final illness.
