Obituary

Beverly A. Monk, 88, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Heartland Senior Living in Truman, Minnesota. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, July 13 from 5pm till 7pm at Waterbury Funeral Service, 4125 Orleans Avenue, Sioux City, Iowa. A service and time of sharing will be held at 7pm.

Beverly Ann Carlson “Monk” was born April 20, 1935, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Wanda Bernice Carlson and Roy Sylvester Carlson. Bev graduated from Central High School in 1953. She earned the nick name “Pucky”. The name remains under investigation.

During High School Bev was active in the Friendship HI-Tri Club and DECA Club. After graduation, Bev worked bartending and then headed to the West Coast. Soon after, she was blessed by having her first son Dale Dailey. Bev married later and had Arnie Dailey and Gary Dailey. She attended the Elvis concert in ‘56 at Sturgis with her son. She took multiple trips to Florida. Bev is and was born a free spirit, a woman who changed with the times and spent her life serving the public. Bartending at Bob’s into her late 70’s, attending the bingo halls for a lucky win and driving around the Westside of Sioux City to keep up on the local gossip. If you’re here today, then you know Bev was here to live her best life.

Until the last couple of years, Bev has held more energy than anyone I’ve ever known. This week as we say goodbye, please note how lucky we all are to have had her in our life. Family was important to Bev and she dearly loved her children and grandchildren. It is true though, that Bev’s idea of family was not just those who shared the same blood. Bev’s friends were family too.

Bev is survived by her two sons, Gary Dailey and Arnold Dailey; grandchildren, Heather Williams, Brandie Fountain, Dale Dailey, II, Ajay Daily, Jessica Dailey, Austin Dailey, Molly Heck, and Stasha Dailey; great grandchildren; Tyler Madias, Koty Madias, Christian Acosta, Knowledge Fountain, Neveah Dailey, Korbin Knudson, Wesley Heck, Riley Heck, Kennedy Dailey; and two great-great grandchildren, Avonni Newsome and Hazel Dailey. She is also survived by her special friend Louise.

Bev was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin Monk; and her son Dale Dailey.
