Obituary

Betty I. Kollman, 88 of Sergeant Bluff, passed away Monday, January 30, 2023, at her residence. A Memorial Service will be held 6 pm Thursday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Visitation 4-7 pm with the family present 5-7 pm.

Betty Irene Kollman was born on December 23, 1934, in Little Fork, Minnesota, the daughter of Irving and Blanche (Cox) Park.

While still a young girl, the family moved to Carrington, North Dakota and she graduated from Carrington High School. After graduating she moved to Chicago for a short time and worked at Motorola. Later she returned to North Dakota and worked at Northwestern Bell.  After Northwestern Bell closed, Betty started a new career in the banking industry. She worked in Carrington, Conroe, Texas and retired in Tempe, Arizona in 2005.

Betty then moved to the Sioux City area to be near her family. She worked in her spare time at the Hy-Vee on Gordon Drive.

The friends she made became her “regulars.” She enjoyed them as much as they enjoyed her hard work ethic, and her top priority was always good customer service.

Betty also loved to golf with her Floyd Ladies and play cards on the off season. She looked forward to Thursday Night bowling with her team. She never wanted to put anyone out and made that known until she passed. Her Sundays were for church and breakfast at Johnny Mars. Betty was always early for everything and never wanted anyone to have to wait for her. She had a stubborn streak but a heart of gold for all her friends.

When Betty became ill on June 17, 2022, and had to give up all the things she enjoyed, she was introduced to St. Croix Hospice. A special Thanks to her nurse, Jen, and Richard the pastor (who sang to her at his visits) and all of the other wonderful workers at St. Croix Hospice.

Survivors include her daughter, Becky (Gary) Goodier of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; three grandchildren, Whitney (Zeb) Husted of Lincoln, Nebraska, Zachary (Kayla) Howard of Omaha, Nebraska and Caleb (Brittanie) Howard of Omaha, Nebraska; eight great grandchildren, Kimber, Bennett, Stassi, Easton, Bristol, Eva, Isla, and Brooks; three sisters, Ethel Liley of Tempe, Arizona, Florence (Bill) Matzig of Duncanville, Texas and Ruth (Jerry) Kanwischer of Harvey, North Dakota.

She is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Wallace, Irving Jr., Harold and Jack, and two sisters, Verna and an infant sister.
