Betty Ann DeGeest, 84 of Sergeant Bluff, died Friday at the Embassy Healthcare Community on September 29, 2017.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held 4-7 pm Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff, with the family present 5-7 pm. Burial will be at a later date in Woodbury Township Cemetery.
Betty was born on September 20, 1933 in Castana, Iowa, the daughter of Leroy and Ellen (Olson) Peterson. Betty graduated from the Sergeant Bluff High School in 1951. She was married to Roland DeGeest on April 3, 1955. They had two children, Brad and Michael.
Betty worked at the Sergeant Bluff Schools during the 1960’s, and was known as “Betty the Baker”. Later she worked at the Area Educational Agency, retiring in 1995.
Betty enjoyed camping with her grandchildren. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Red Hatter Society, and a former member of the Moose Lodge.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Kelly) DeGeest; three grandchildren, Tara Moss, Jerry DeGeest, Steven “Rocky” DeGeest; two great grandchildren, Aaron and Elexis Moss; and one sister, Dorothy Petey (Elbert “Sarge”) Sargent; her niece Roxann Sargent-Beacom nephew Patrick Sargent, and a special friend Lee Bonser.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 son, Brad DeGeest.
