Betty Louise Davis, 90, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Northern Hills in Sioux City. Memorial service will be held 7:00 pm, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Spring Mills, Pennsylvania.
Betty was born on September 6th, 1926 in Lemmon, South Dakota, the daughter of Earl and Anna Penfield. Betty was one of five children.
Betty graduated from Lemmon High School in 1944 and attended one year at Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She taught the 1944-45 school year, before moving to Sioux City, Iowa. She moved to Springs Mills, Pennsylvania in 1973. Many years were spent in Spring Mills, raising the younger children, enjoying grandchildren and spending time at Grange Fair each fall. Betty also lived in Florida for several years before moving to Arizona City, Arizona. Her sisters, relatives and friends living in Arizona City filled her life with happiness.
Betty loved to volunteer at her church's Thrift Shop and to do embroidery cloths for all of her children, grand children and great-grandchildren. She was also an avid card player. 2015 brought a move back to Sioux City, Iowa. During her life Betty always made journeys back to her place of birth to keep in touch with friends and family. She especially enjoyed going back to Lemmon for family reunions and Boss Cowman Days.
Survivors include her nine children, Jeanne (David Emrich) Schopp (Hetzel) of Salix, Iowa, Dean (Linda) Hetzel of Lakehurst, New Jersey, Carolyn (Jim) Cullinane (Hetzel) of Hinton, Iowa, Don (Coleen) Hetzel of Keokuk, Iowa, Byron (Kerry) Hetzel of Yankton, South Dakota, Pam (Curt) McCool (Beaver) of Spring Mills, Pennsylvania, Jeff Beaver of Center Hall, Pennsylvania, Judy (Matt) Shawver (Beaver) of Aaronsburg, Pennsylvania and Kirk Davis of Spring Mills, Pennsylvania; 20 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Verna (Sam) Landy and Yvonne Shockley; brother, Robert Penfield
Betty was preceded in death by her husbands; sisters, Bonnie Kile, Ruth Saunders Quail; grandson, Terry Brewer, Mike Cannon; and great-grandson, Caleb Brewer.
