Bertha Marie Mitchell (Kamm) departed her earthly life on Saturday, February 21, 2015 after a lengthy illness.
Service will be 10:00am Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff, with Pastor Tim Schiller officiating, burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be held at 4-8pm Tuesday, February 24 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.
Bertha began her life on January 29, 1930, the first of 14 children of Julius and Minnie (Pedersen) Kamm in Bronson, Iowa.
She grew up in Climbing Hill, Iowa and graduated in 1948, where she enjoyed chorus. Her dream as a child was to become a mother, and she began that dream when she married Howard Mitchell, March 22, 1949 and moved to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, where they raised six children.
She enjoyed her spending time with family and friends, reading, word games, and gardening. Bertha was a charter member of Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff.
Bertha is survived by three sons; Dr. Terry (Ellen), Gerald (Sue), Kevin (Julie) Mitchell and two daughters; Glenda Wulf, and Rhonda (John) Cortis, five brothers; Donald, Norman (Kelly), Mark (Joyce), Warren (Linda), and Carl (Amy) and three sisters; Doris (Harold) Christiansen, Gladys (James) Hartman, and Francis (Wilbur) Westhoff, nine grandchildren; Calista, Jennifer, Colin, Michelle, Kristi, Sarah, Kelly, Joshua, and Johanna and nine great grandchildren; Conner, Delaney, Andrew, Masen, Sadee, Brynlee, Anthony, Sam and Cooper.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Julius and Minnie, Howard Mitchell, three brothers; Oliver, Ernest, Robert, and two sisters; Esther and Linda, one son Rodger, and one granddaughter Mandy Sue.
