Barry Lynn Hueschen, affectionately known as “Bear”, was born March 26, 1948 in Columbus, NE, the son of Wilbert and Vernace (Goering) Hueschen. He graduated from Platt Center, NE in 1967. After high school, Barry served in the United States Navy from 1968 until 1976 receiving an Honorable Discharge. During that time, he also served for the Army National Guard of Iowa receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1974. He married Jeannie Hoch on October 2, 1971, in South Sioux City, NE. Barry was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and formally a member of the Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City.
Some of Barry’s favorite pastimes were bowling, softball, and spending time outdoors. He spent a great deal of time bowling on league championship teams and accomplishing many accolades along the way; highlighted by two perfect 300 games. At one point in his career, he was among the top bowlers in Sioux City. Along with bowling, Barry loved softball. Early in his career, he was credited with putting together several championship teams. Barry also enjoyed the outdoors. Some of the things he most looked forward to, were fishing, camping, and hunting with his family and friends, never forgetting to wear one of his many eagle shirts along the way!
Barry was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved watching football. His favorite teams were the Green Bay Packers and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Barry especially enjoyed attending Husker games with his sons, and enjoyed volunteering for and cheering on the Sioux City Stampede Football Team.
Of all his accomplishments in life, Barry was most proud of his children and grandchildren. Anyone who knew Barry knew this by the way his face lit up when he talked about them. He will always be remembered as a man who loved his family more than anything.
