Barbara Jean Shupe, 76, of Sioux City, IA passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016 at home, surrounded by family, following a short battle with cancer.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 11:00 am at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue with Deacon Lee Thomas officiating and Reverend Dayle Webb assisting. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service.
Born on December 18th, 1939, to Raymond and Phyllis (Roach) Kissinger in Nebraska City, NE. Barb attended Central High School in Sioux City. On May 11, 1957, she married James Shupe in South Sioux City, NE, with whom she had six children. She served lunch at several schools and cleaned offices at the Commerce Building. She later moved to Omaha where she served lunch at Hillside Elementary and worked in the deli at Baker’s. She returned to Sioux City and worked as a housekeeper at the Argosy for 12 years, before retiring in 2012.
Barb enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Watching television, reading books, and anyone who knew her knows she loved to gamble. She liked to take the bus to the movies, but it's not certain if she ever watched an entire movie because she would always nod off to sleep. Her friendliness and kindness to all people is a tribute to the beauty of her heart and soul. Her inspiring presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to have known her.
Survivors include her children, Debbie and her husband, Tim Stone, Melissa Shupe, Barry Shupe, Terry Shupe, Stacy Shupe, and Tracy Shupe; her 16 grandchildren, Amanda Shupe, Amber Shupe, Marcel Shupe, Tanisha Shupe, Trevell Shupe, Angelo Cruz, Andre Shupe, Lastacia Shupe, Steven Shupe, Olivia Shupe, Heather Satterwhite, Gwenn Kehrer, Stephanie James, Mazi Shupe, Trinity Shupe, and Alicia Orr; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond Kissinger.
Barb was preceded in death by her mother, father, step-mother, sister, grandmother, and beloved friend, Jean.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kaiser, Dr. Abraham, Dr. Smith, the nurses at Mercy and Hospice of Sioux land for the care they provided.
