Rev. Barbara K. Hansen, 84 of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024, at her home after a long illness.

Her wishes were for cremation, and services will be held at a later date.

Barbara Kay Hansen was born on August 3, 1939, in Sioux City, the daughter of George and Grace (Bell) Hansen. She graduated from East High School in 1957, then graduated from the University of Iowa in 1961 with a degree in Physical Education. Barb taught for several years at a college and later High School.

Barb then attended Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio and was ordained as an ELCA Pastor in 1995. She served several churches in Virginia, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska in both Pastoral and Interim Pastoral duties. Barb retired in 2016.

Barb had a love of cats and helped her sister foster many. She especially loved her last cat Dora, who never left her side during Barb's last moments. Barbara was charter member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church.

Barb is survived by her sister and caregiver, Sue Ullrich, her nieces Dawn Grunwald and Laura Ullrich, three great nephews and several close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and a great nephew.
