Arnold G. Thompson, 68 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at a local hospital surrounded by his family. Services will be held 11:00am Monday, December 9, 2019 at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave, with Military Honors provided by United States Army and the American Legion Post 376. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Arnold Gene “Arnie” Thompson was born May 9, 1951 in Sioux City, IA the son of William and Mabel (Titus) Thompson. He attended Sioux City Public School. Arnie joined the United States Army on June 21, 1968 serving in the Vietnam War, in the 25 th infantry as a radio operator, receiving his honorable discharge on June 20, 1974. Upon his return he continued his education at WIT in Diesel Mechanics. He married Susan Cannon on November 16, 1973, and together they made their home in the Siouxland area.
Arnie enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling with the family. He also enjoyed playing monopoly and chess.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Thompson, five children; William Thompson, Arnold Thompson, Jr., Rose Custer, Beverly Thompson, Danny Thompson all of Sioux City, IA; 20 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 7 siblings; Robert Thompson, Richard (Julie) Shearn, William (Crystal) Thompson, Jr, Robin Hass, Penny (Mike) Bekish, Randy Thompson, Paullette (Harlan) Millard, and one half sister, Connie Pilcher.
Arnold is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Barbara Reed, and half brother, Danny Pilcher.
