Arlene H. Meyer, 100 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Thursday, August 28, 2025, surrounded by her family, at her home. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Restoration Church, 4310 Old Lakeport Road, Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Arlene was born on December 2, 1924, in Bassett, NE to Ernest and Loretta (Frear) Lanz. She taught in a country school for a year in Rose, NE and then worked for the railroad as a telegraph typist for 5 years in Wall Lake, IA. While in Wall Lake, she met Harold Onno Meyer. As they walked on opposite sides of the street, he told his buddy he was going to marry her someday. They were married in January of 1947. Together they loved to travel, especially in the southwest, and were campground hosts. Arlene and Harold took in numerous foster children throughout their lives and Arlene ran a daycare from her home. They moved to California approximately 35 years ago to retire. Arlene returned to Sioux City in 2024, and Harold died in 2012.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons: Gregory (Alice) Meyer and Mitchel (Andrea) Meyer; grandchildren: Rebecca Fesler (Matt) and Shaun (Aliesha Logsdon) Meyer, Katherine (Mike) Thoene, Brett (Tabby) Bailey and Mitchell (Tori) Choquette, and great-grandchildren: Emily Fesler, Josh (Kai) and Molly Fesler; Zephrin Rondo, Abigail Bailey, Nolan Bailey and Destry Allen.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Bruce; 2 brothers: Linn and Bob; and granddaughter, Erin Meyer.
