Amy Sue Parker

Amy Parker, 56, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 27, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor Thursday, March 19th, 2026, with visitation from 5-7 and services from 7-8 with Pastor Matt Wentz officiating, at Waterbury Funeral Service 4125 Orleans Ave, Sioux City.

Amy Sue Parker was born July 9, 1969 in Sioux City, Iowa, to George and Louise “Maxine” (Lindgren) Parker. Amy attended school in Anthon, graduating with the class of 1987. In her younger years, Amy quickly became a cowgirl at heart, helping her dad with the family business and developing her vast knowledge and love of horses. She connected deeply with them and had an innate ability to win over and break any horse, even the most stubborn and hard-headed. She loved showing and racing her horses throughout high school – including barrel, chuckwagon, and even chariot race competitions! After graduation she tried on many hats, including attending Iowa State, home of her beloved Cyclones, nannying in both New York and Colorado, and studying criminal justice at Western Iowa Technical College.

Amy worked many years as a receptionist at the June Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City. She then started a position as an ER registrar at UnityPoint – St Lukes, which helped her find her niche in the medical field. She continued on to positions at PACE and overnight operator at UnityPoint Downtown – Mercy. At the time of her death, Amy had recently transferred to the Mercy ER as an Administrative Assistant, where she absolutely loved working with the patients and staff and quickly became a respected and invaluable team member.

Amy had a wealth of knowledge on many things, from cooking, gardening, playing guitar, sports, to her love of horses and dogs. Amy loved applying that knowledge and the fierce competitiveness that she learned at a young age to another of her passions, trivia. Amy often said no one would play her at Trivial Pursuit because she knew all the answers. She even tried out and made it to the semi-finals for Jeopardy! Amy loved playing trivia every chance she could get, virtually or in person and all of the wonderful friendships and relationships she developed with her trivia family. Amy was the nicest person you could meet and considered everyone her friend, making an impact on people wherever she went.

Amy did so many things in her short life, but she considered her greatest accomplishment to be raising her amazing son, Cade, and never passed on the chance to let others know how smart he was and how proud she was of him.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Cade (Reneelynn) Parker, Omaha, best friends Janel Hansen, Sioux City, and Kim Treinen, LeMars, her beloved Shi-ke and Queen Sabba (who have both found amazing new homes), and countless friends and co-workers that she loved talking to daily.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents George and Louise, brother Michael, sister Mitzi (McGill) and many, many beloved 4-legged babies including her cherished corgis, Molly, Tilly, and Trooper.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor Thursday, March 19th, 2026, with visitation from 5-7 and services from 7-8 with Pastor Matt Wentz officiating, at Waterbury Funeral Home, with a private burial to be held at a later date. Honorary pallbearers are her extended UnityPoint – Mercy and Trivia families.

Amy’s family and friends request in lieu of flowers to please send memorials to Wet-Nose Rescue, No Dog Cleft Behind, or your local animal rescue.

We would love and request that on Thursday you wear your favorite Iowa Cyclones or Western attire in Amy’s honor.

Where a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories.
