Obituary

Alan R. Thiele, 71 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2026 surrounded by his family. Graveside service will be held 10:00am Friday, September 4, 2026 at Logan Park Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marines and American Legion Post 64.

Alan was born September 11, 1954, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Orville and Roberta (Watterson) Thiele. He graduated from West High School in Sioux City in 1973.Following graduation, Alan began a long and distinguished career of military service when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1973. His commitment to serving his country continued for many years through the Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve, Army National Guard, and ultimately the 185th Air National Guard, from which he retired.

Alan spent many years working as an HVAC/R technician, building a career around his ability to understand, repair, and keep things running. He spent 15 years at St. Luke’s Hospital and later worked for CBRE, where he eventually retired. Alan also shared his knowledge and experience with the next generation of tradespeople as an instructor at Western Iowa Tech Community College, teaching skills he had learned and practiced throughout his career.

Alan enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycles, fishing, camping, and working on just about anything, usually with something from his extensive collection of Ryobi tools close at hand. More than anything, Alan was someone who took care of the people around him. If a friend or family member needed help, he was the kind of person who would drop what he was doing and show up. Whether it was a refrigerator, an air conditioner, or just about anything else that needed fixing, Alan could usually find a way to get it working again. He was generous with his time, his knowledge, and his willingness to lend a hand.

Alan shared 51 years of marriage with his wife, Earlzie (Strong) Thiele. Together, they raised four children and built a family that grew to include five grandchildren.

Alan is survived by his wife, Earlzie; his children, Chad Thiele and his wife, Ayumi; Jared Thiele and his wife, Anesa; Matt Thiele and his wife, Kelli, and their children, Kamron and Kenzie; and Jessica Thiele and her children, Haylie, Hannah, and Hayden. He is also survived by his brothers, Mark Thiele and his wife, Ellen, and Brian Thiele and his wife, Julie; and his sister, Beth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Roberta (Watterson) Thiele.
