Adam Hernandez grew up in Sioux City, Iowa as the eighth of nine siblings, recognized from his earliest days for a smile that lit up every room. His childhood in a large family instilled values of patience and understanding that would serve him well throughout his life.
Adam found his life partner in Fhilipa, building a loving relationship that spanned 12 years. Together, they raised their son Damian, who became the center of Adam's world. When Damian was diagnosed with autism, Adam embraced the role of primary caregiver with exceptional dedication and love.
Adam, Fhilipa, and Damian eventually made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska, where they built their life together. Each day when Fhilipa returned from work, Adam would greet her with "Hi my love, how was your day?" and often surprised her with gifts simply because he loved her. These small acts of kindness defined their partnership.
Adam's patience and creativity shone through in his relationship with Damian. They shared special moments building Legos, completing puzzles, creating diamond art, and watching Dragon Ball Z and Gumball together. Adam used his love of gaming to connect with Damian therapeutically, and as Damian grew older, they developed a special bond that included hours of cuddling and napping together.
One of Adam's proudest moments came when Damian, who had speech challenges, finally said, "I love you" - words Adam had longed to hear, and that represented a breakthrough born of his patient fatherhood
At just 29 years old, Adam's passing in Lincoln leaves a profound emptiness in the home that once echoed with his voice and laughter. Though his time with us was brief, his legacy of love continues through Fhilipa, Damian, his eight siblings, and all who were blessed to know him. The impact of his devotion and that unforgettable smile will forever remain in our hearts.
Adam is survived by his life partner Fhilipa and their son Damian, his mother Sofia Y. Wilson and his siblings Sonya L. Caro, Adolfo Hernandez, Samantha Crutchfield, Alexander Hernandez, Sondra Hernandez, Anthony Hernandez, Amber Hernandez, and Andres Hernandez.
